John Faulds
John commenced his Second Six pupillage in April 2026, under the supervision of Paul Lazarus.
During John’s first six months of pupillage, he assisted in preparing for trials of murder, serious sexual offences, serious violence, and serious organised crime/large-scale Class A drug conspiracies. This has included drafting advice on obtaining expert evidence related to a defendant’s particular vulnerabilities, especially concerning mental health and fitness to plead. John has also conducted research into abuse of process arguments related to child defendants and whether there are different considerations for children regarding delay and investigative failings, and issues related to the admissibility of hearsay evidence obtained from foreign police forces.
Before commencing pupillage, John worked for nearly 10 years as a foreign affairs and security analyst for the UK government at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and the Cabinet Office. While working, he completed his legal studies part-time and volunteered at the South Westminster Legal Advice Centre. Prior to this, he trained and (very occasionally) worked as an actor.
