Nicholas is a tenacious advocate, with a busy practice in serious crime, handling complex cases.

Nicholas has experience in dealing with all aspects of crime, from cases involving murder, serious violence, firearms and weapons; sexual offences, drug dealing, white-collar crime; through to technical driving offences.

He has a growing practice in serious crime, and has been involved in a number of multi-handed conspiracies. Current instructions include a drug dealing operation involving transportation of multiple kilogram ‘bricks’ of cocaine and an armed gang-related burglary resulting in kidnap/torture.

Nicholas also has a keen interest in legal argument in developing or under-developed areas of the law and has advised clients on the use of police powers to compel suspects to provide their mobile telephone PIN codes.

He has also appeared at an inquest before the Coroner’s Court, and has a wealth of experience in representing vulnerable young people at all stages, including in the Youth Court.

R v B (2022) Wood Green Crown Court: Successfully argued at sentence against immediate custody for a cleaner who was found to have stolen £44,000 from her employer over the course of 3 months.
R v B (2022) Isleworth Crown Court: Secured an acquittal after trial for SB for threatening 3 men with a knife in the aftermath of a robbery. SB has previous convictions for possessing knives and firearms.
CPS v G (2022) Bromley Magistrates’ Court: Successfully argued for a Community Order in a case of a driver who was more than three times over the legal limit due to novel circumstances. The starting point is 12 weeks’ custody (News Link).
R v Sheen and others (2022) Oxford Crown Court (led by Isobel McCarroll): Represented JL (defendant 5 of 7) for his part in multiple conspiracies to steal and burgle across the country. The offences included the burglary of trophies at Newmarket Horse Racing Museum (News Link).
R v A (2022) Southwark Crown Court: Acquitted after trial of dealing drugs (defending).
R v R (2021) Wood Green Crown Court: Secured an acquittal after trial in relation to a domestic argument which resulted in numerous ABH injuries. Had successfully applied to dismiss an allegation of causing GBH injuries on the same complainant.
CPS v KW (2021) Bromley Youth Court: Successfully defended a youth charged with possessing a prohibited weapon in a private place 3 days after the commencement of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019. Arguments engaged whether or not the article in question could be classified as a ‘zombie knife’.
R v Q (2021) Woolwich Crown Court: Secured a short Suspended Sentence Order for a defendant who had escaped lawful custody and remained at large for 13 months. Legal submissions distinguished this case from numerous authorities which suggested immediate custody. Was praised by the judiciary for a ‘most carefully crafted piece of mitigation’.
R v Loveridge and Others (2021) Oxford Crown Court (led by Isobel McCarroll): Defended JL at trial (defendant 1 of 3) for causing death by dangerous driving and a conspiracy to burgle an antiques store (News Link).
R v S and Others (2020) Southwark Crown Court: Represented the first defendant charged with leading a conspiracy to import Class A drugs (6 tonnes per month) via EncroChat. Allegations also included conspiracy to torture another member of the criminal fraternity.
CPS v A, B & C (2020/2019) Willesden Youth Court: Defended three sisters throughout numerous trials and proceedings in relation to various unprovoked assaults on London buses and TFL service.
