Diana Ellis QC & Sam Blom-Cooper appointed by UN MICT

Diana Ellis QC and Sam Blom-Cooper have been appointed by the United Nations Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (UN MICT) to represent the former Rwandan Minister of Planning, Augustin Ngirabatware, on appeal, in relation to his convictions for involvement in the 1994 genocide.
On 20 December 2012, Ngirabatware was sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment by the Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda for, inter alia, incitement to commit genocide, and instigating, aiding and abetting genocide.  In December 2014, the MICT Appeals Chamber reduced Ngirabatware’s sentence to 30 years' imprisonment and more recently, after further submissions, has granted Ngirabatware’s request for a  review of the Appeal Judgement.
