Exceptional Sentence In International Conspiracy To Supply Drugs

Michael Neofytou leading Chantel Gaber secured an exceptional sentence of 5 years 3 months’ imprisonment for a defendant sentenced as part of an international investigation into the operation of a UK based organised crime group.

The group used contacts abroad, in particular in Columbia and Spain, to arrange for the movement and onward supply of cocaine to the UK. UK authorities cooperated with Spanish law enforcement and coordinated arrests resulted in the seizure of 175kg of cocaine in Madrid in 2019. Encrypted phone material generated by Operation Venetic was used in the investigation.

Following their guilty pleas at Guildford Crown Court for conspiracy to supply cocaine the leading conspirators received lengthy custodial sentences ranging from 19 years 10 months’ imprisonment to 18 years and 4 months’ imprisonment. Michael and Chantel’s client received 3 years for his involvement in the conspiracy to supply cocaine and 2 years 3 months consecutive for a separate offence of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

They were instructed by Julian Richards of Reeds, Oxford.
