Before starting the GDL Violet played rugby for Premiership women's team (at the time) Richmond RFC and coached rugby to young people at risk of falling into crime in the Morro do Castro favela, Rio de Janiero. The programme has been highly successful in diverting participants away from organised crime and helping them to reach their potential through education, including English language classes and the rugby sessions which provide them with a creative outlet.

During the GDL Violet was a mentor on the Vocalise programme with Gray's Inn and a Student Director of the BPP Human Rights Unit, organising internal and external events as well as the newsletter.
