Practice

Tanveer has extensive litigation and advocacy experience.  As well as appearing in both criminal and civil courts, Tanveer has also appeared in a wide range of domestic tribunals (including the General Medical Council, General Dental Council, the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal). Tanveer can accept instructions via direct access.

Tanveer's criminal practice includes both private and publically funded work. Tanveer takes a particular interest in corporate crime, he has advised on financial and environmental regulations and recently he has been advising companies on the implications of the Bribery Act.

In relation to fraud, Tanveer has also been involved in VHCC cases. Recent instructions include advising on one the largest MTEC frauds prosecuted by HMRC.

In addition to fraud, Tanveer has been considerable in defending clients against allegations of terrorism and serious criminal charges. He has been instructed both as leader and junior in a number of high-profile cases where the prosecution have typically relied on cell site, probe evidence and other technical forms of evidence.

Environmental Law

  • Tanveer is currently instructed in a prosecution arising from the exportation of WEEE. This case represents the first ever challenge to the Transfrontier Shipment of Waste Regulations 2007. The case is due to be heard by the Court of Appeal later this year.
  • Tanveer is regularly instructed to advice companies about their obligations arising from collection, process and delivery of WEEE and EEE and other regulatory compliance schemes.

Terrorism

Tanveer has considerable experience in defending allegations of terrorism. He is normally instructed at an early stage and has also assisted in bail applications during pre-charge detention.

  • R v B - One of the first prosecutions under Terrorism Act 2006 (acquitted of inciting terrorism) - led junior
  • R v A - S.57 prosecution involving a school teacher (prosecution offer noevidence following abuse application, Junior alone)
  • R v M - The 'lyrical' terrorist case (client acquitted of serious allegation and conviction for lessor charge quashed on appeal – led Junior).
  • R v B - POCA proceedings involving cash seized allegedly destined for Omar Bakri Mohammed, police were ordered to release the case following trial and submissions - Junior alone

Tanveer has a growing Professional Discipline and Regulatory practice. Tanveer has experience of representing professionals before their regulatory bodies and particularly the GMC, HPC and GDC.  He has appeared in a number of multi-day Fitness to Practise Panel hearings and Registration Appeal (formally known as PMETB Appeals).
