Practice

Instructed regularly in major organised crime trials and has defended in some of the largest & complex cases. His practice includes numerous murder trials and National Crime Squad operations. He has frequently conducted contested confiscation hearings both under the Criminal Justice Act / Drug Trafficking Act and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
He also specialises in the cross-examination of vulnerable witnesses and is regularly instructed to appear in sensitive cases involving very young complainants.

Notable Cases

  • R v Gun & Others (Operation Blue Sky) - Pan-European facilitation of illegal immigrants which is alleged to have involved the movement & entry of over 100,000 individuals into the UK; the largest known facilitation case.
  • R v Kemble & Others (Operation Indeminate) - the largest counterfeiting case to have come before a court in this jurisdiction concerning the alleged production of over £11m of forged sterling & euro bank notes.
  • R V Soylu & others -the importation of over £5million worth of heroin into UK through a European net-work.
  • R V Ugar & others - Operation Rouble large scale money laundering operation which was connected to two other major investigations.
  • R v Michael & others - operation Keighlet the importation of over £million worth of heroin into the UK from Greece.
  • R V Domingos & others - Operation Bangor the largest investigation into banking deception within the UK when over £20million was stolen by the use of stolen cheque account books which were intercepted through a North London postal sorting depot.
  • R V Vallentine - Dr Vallentine, the largest illegal drug production enterprise in Europe - the case formed the basis of Channel Four Despatches programme.
  • R V Gonzalez & others - large scale importation of cocaine by a Colombian/Spanish syndicate.
  • R V Ruark - the murder of Jacqueline Poole a cold case review from 1982.
  • R V Demir - a married non-English speaking Turkish woman who was alleged to have doused her lover in petrol whilst he slept - the case was of national interest in Turkey and raised a great deal of public interest.
  • R V Gumus - a triple murder.
  • R V Kirk - attempted murder, when a fishing harpoon was fired into the head of a young victim, photos of which were on the front pages of the national press.
  • R V Taraskus & others - Lithuanian kidnap and extortion syndicate- involved in kidnapping gang masters.

Associated Work

Osman has lectured upon numerous topics and, in particular, on the use of forensic evidence in homicide and sexual offences. He is a visiting lecturer at the Barts & London School of Medicine & Dentistry.
