Landmark decision in appeal of R v Malik (aka 'the lyrical terrorist') 17 June 2008
S.58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 makes it a criminal offence to possess and/or record information, without reasonable excuse, which is information of a kind likely to be useful to a terrorist. Last year, Tanveer Qureshi represented Samina Malik aka 'the lyrical terrorist', she was tried on two counts S.57 and S.58. Ms Malik was acquitted of the more serious charge but ultimately convicted of the lesser offence contrary to S.58.
