We offer representation in all types of criminal defence through Chambers’ four dedicated practice groups:

The Business Crime Group represents professionals such as accountants, financial advisors, solicitors and executives who are facing charges relating to dishonesty in business practice. The group regularly defends in prosecutions brought by the Crown Prosecution Service, Serious Fraud Office, HM Revenue & Customs and investigations led by the Financial Services Authority.

Rudi Fortson has written for Sweet & Maxwell books on Serious Organised Crime & Police Act 2005 and The Proceeds of Crime Act 2003. He is Visiting Professor of Law at Queen Mary, University of London.

The Crime Group all other criminal work including murder, serious violence, sexual offences, drugs offences and other crimes of dishonesty. The Group offers a full representation service from the Magistrates Court to the House of Lords. In recent years it has developed particular experience in defending cross-border crime involving issues of extradition and mutual assistance.

The Civil Liberties and Human Rights Group represents defendants accused of serious breaches of national security, including espionage and terrorism. In the UK, representation extends to pre-charge periods and post conviction applications such as judicial reviews and mental health review tribunals.

The International Practice Group has members who have been taking cases at the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda for the past 12 years. Its work encompasses a variety of national, international and internationalized courts including the International Criminal Court, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Extraordinary Chambers of the Court of Cambodia, the Special Panels for Serious Crimes in East Timor, and the State War Crimes Court in Sarajevo. Members of the group have also undertaken training and lecturing all over the world, and have published extensively on issues in the field in leading journals.

Within these groups Chambers offers specialist expertise in a number of areas of civil law which impact on criminal defence, including civil actions against the police, environmental law and sports law.

Central to our philosophy is a belief that everyone should have equal access to the best representation and we continue our commitment to publicly-funded representation. Where appropriate, members undertake pro bono work through the Bar Council Pro Bono Scheme.
