Cases
Crime
- R v Jones – Junior counsel in multi handed conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, involving extensive probe evidence and covert recordings
- R v Richardson – Junior counsel in multi-handed conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
- R v Haque – Counsel for defendant in multi-handed violent disorder and ABH trial.
- R v Tollady – Acted for first defendant in multi-handed ABH and Affray trial.
- R v Machado – Counsel for defendant charged with possession of imitation firearm and threats to kill made to his daughter against his former wife.
- R v Murataj – Counsel for defendant charged with sexual assault on 14-year old girl. Case involved mental health issues, DNA evidence and cross-examination of forensic expert.
- R v Ukwunna – Acted for defendant charged with false imprisonment and threats to kill
- R v Robinson – Counsel for defendant charged with distribution of obscene material. Advised on conducting legality of Newton Hearing in relation to other offences that did not form the subject of specific charges.
- R v Cam – Represented defendant charged with ABH against her flatmate. Case involved substantial issues of bad character and an application was made to adduce evidence of the complainant’s previous misconduct, supported by over ten defence witnesses.
- R v Baah – Acted in six-day Youth Court trial for defendant charged, along with five others, of s.20 GBH.
- Human Rights Law
DPP v Crippen- Advised and assisted with appeal to CCRC against conviction of Dr Crippen, on behalf of his nearest living relative
International Criminal Law
- R v Mugabe – Advised and assisted with application for international arrest warrant against President Mugabe.
- R v Osmanoglu – Advised and researched on enforced disappearances in Turkey.
Fraud and Financial Regulation
- R v Ahmed - Represented defendant - a court interpreter - charged with conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to perjure.
- R v Ahmad - Counsel for defendant charged with money laundering and substantial benefit fraud committed over almost ten year period.
Proceeds of Crime Act
- R v Mohammed – Counsel in confiscation proceedings where Crown set benefit figure at approximately £250,000. After contested hearing this was reduced to some £40,000; less then the respondent’s available amount
- R v Grassi – Acted for defendant in confiscation where Crown were seeking a benefit figure of over £200,000, which was reduced to £55,000.
Also experienced in conducting Forfeiture hearings in the Magistrates’ Court.
Prison Law
Have experience in a range of adjudication hearings.
Associated Work
- Spent a year and half before pupillage working as a legal assistant for a senior partner in leading London criminal law firm.
- During pupillage I worked closely with Edward Fitzgerald QC and Paul Hynes in the trial of R v Hamza; researching and preparing submissions relating to terrorism offences, soliciting murder and inciting racial hatred.
- I have lectured to solicitors firms and in-house on ‘Bad Character’ and Youth Court practice & procedure.
- Was recently selected to represent the South Eastern Circuit on an intensive week long advocacy course in America, organised by the Florida Bar.
- I am also actively involved in mentoring young offenders and law students from underprivileged backgrounds.
